Hey, Canadians, wasn’t that turkey fantastic? I just love Thanksgiving. Sorry, Americans, you have to wait another month or so. I mean, this was your choice. You could’ve adopted our holiday, but no, you had to do something all your own. No matter how ridiculously close to Christmas it is. Although, I’m not quite sure why it took so long for Americans to catch on. That’s right, the first Canadian Thanksgiving was celebrated in 1578. The first American Thanksgiving wasn’t celebrated until 1863. Who are the trendsetters now, eh?
Sure, the origins of our Thanksgiving aren’t quite as glamorous as discovering America and making peace between the Pilgrims and the Natives. We just wanted to eat …… and be thankful, of course. Personally, I think that eating is a good enough reason to get together with family. And taking time to be grateful for our many blessings, including our neighbours to the south, is pretty cool too.
